Fiercely independent painter Takashi Saito has reached his 80th birthday. Saito is known for his exploration of the color black, and he does so with a wide variety of materials, including crayon, pencil, and ink. In recent years, he has also begun creating copperplate prints. Through his depictions of the human visage, Saito utilizes the drama offered by black and white to present the inner landscape of human lives.
